Another ball tampering incident has come to the limelight, and this time a famous bowler has been caught in the same. Shaheen Shah Afridi was recently caught in the PSL with other players such as Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman. Eventually, the team got penalised for just five runs.

Ball tampering is known as an incident which has spoiled a number of careers. Fans do remember the incidents which come to the spotlight, like the ball tampering scandal of 2018. David Warner and Steve Smith, two renowned Australian players, suffered bans of two years from all forms of the game.

Since then, no player ever dared to do the same, knowing that the consequences would be severe. But something totally opposite happened in the Pakistan Super League. In the recent match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, Shaheen Shah Afridi, a renowned Pakistani bowler was caught in ball tampering.

It happened during the 19th over of the game, when the umpires noticed the ball condition. After taking a look at the same, they also decided to hand over a penalty to Shaheen for it. As a result, 5 penalty runs were awarded to Karachi Kings, reducing the target from 14 to 9 in the final over.

Our Take

The incident of ball tampering has quickly taken over the internet, as fans also demand strict actions to be taken against the same. Giving away five penalty runs ensured that the team could not win the game, but it may not have been enough. In the other cases where ball tampering was done, players also received suspension.

Some of them even had their contracts terminated. But in this case, it has been treated lightly. However, it is expected that a committee will be formed on this issue and the PCB might take the required actions for the same. Not just Shaheen, even Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman were caught in the same.
