Manchester United to extend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract, confirms Mourinho
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract would be extended by a year. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old forward has said he is currently in good shape, and would stay for another year if he continues to feel so at the end of the season.
"We are going to execute the option of a second season. After that he can do what he wants," Mourinho told BBC.
Ibrahimovic, previously with Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and AC Milan, joined the Manchester-based club on a free transfer after his contract with French club PSG expired. The former Sweden skipper, who announced his international retirement after the Euro 2016, had a decent start to his career at Old Trafford, scoring eight goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.
“I feel in shape, feel fresh and good. If I feel like I do now, it will be a second year," Ibrahimovic told BBC.
Ibrahimovic has won a trophy every season since 2001, and was named Sweden’s best player of the year for the 10th successive year on Monday. A statue of him is to be erected in Stockholm in honour of his achievements.
However, his trophy-winning run appears to be danger this season with United struggling at 6th place in the Premier League.
