Sir Alex Ferguson praises Klopp for reviving Liverpool
Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has praised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for revitalizing the Reds and turning them into title contenders this season. The legendary gaffer felt that Liverpool have finally found someone who can bring an identity to their club.
When Sir Alex Ferguson took over at Manchester United in 1986, he quoted that his aim was to knock Liverpool off the summit of English football. And the Scot did exactly that, by winning 13 league titles in his 26 years at the Old Trafford. Liverpool, on the other hand, lost the sheen of their yesteryears by failing to land even a single title in that period.
Now, when you are at the helm of at Anfield and receive a high praise from Sir Alex, it is a big deal!
Looks like the former United manager has been hugely impressed by Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, who now sit level in the points table with leaders Manchester City after nine games. Sir Alex said that the German has reinvigorated the lost enthusiasm at Anfield.
"He has done a really good job and revived Liverpool's enthusiasm," Ferguson told Kicker Magazine.
He also praised the ex-Borussia Dortmund coach for bringing a certain style and identity that was lacking in the previous Liverpool teams.
"It can happen that big clubs lose it. For two decades, Liverpool changed managers without building their own identity.
"He's a strong personality. That's absolutely vital at a big club."
The 74-year old also felt that Liverpool are one of the contenders for the title this season.
"You can now well and truly sense that you have to count them in this year. You can see Klopp's dedication on the sideline - I'm convinced his work in training is similar.”
