Scottish Premiership side Motherwell have handed India's U-17 goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh a three-week trial after seeing his heroics in the U-17 World Cup last year. The goalie's training stint is scheduled to start from tomorrow after he refused to extend his contract with Indian Arrows.

Manipur’s Dheeraj Singh came into the limelight during the 2017 U-17 World Cup and even though India lost all their matches in the group stage, Dheeraj garnered a lot of praise from all quarters. The youngster had blocked a total of 11 shots from the three group stage matches which caught the eye of the scouts from Motherwell FC.

Dheeraj’s contract with the Indian Arrows, the All India Football Federation’s developmental squad playing in the I- League, ended on December 31 last year. Instead of renewing his contract, he signed up with the Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League, where his stint with former England Goalkeeper David James had bolstered his confidence.

Dheeraj’s agent, Anuj Kichlu has confirmed his client’s trial for the Scottish club and said that he would train with Motherwell’s first team. Even if he manages to impress the coaches, Motherwell would not be able to get his services until July, after he turns 18, which would then allow the Scottish team to obtain his international transfer.
