More than a month after he was alleged of hiding his age in the Indian Super League, the All India Football Federation disciplinary committee has finally handed Gaurav Mukhi a six-month ban. The Jamshedpur FC player was termed the youngest ever ISL scorer earlier this season after his goal.

The incident had taken place during Jamshedpur FC’s clash with Bengaluru FC earlier last month when Mukhi had come off the bench to score the equalizer in the last moments. Not only the commentator but the ISL website had also labelled the 16-year-old as a "young sensation".

The AIFF disciplinary committee had decided to look into the matter after allegations came into light and after the evidence and admissions presented by Mukhi found him guilty. The statements of the manager of under-16 AIFF academy in 2015 also played a significant role in the proceedings.

AIFF has also seen to it that Mukhi’s registration in the Central Registration System (CRS) and the Competition Management System (CMS) would also be cancelled and revoked with immediate effect. The player, however, can apply for a fresh registration under CRS and CMS with original valid documents after taking permission from the club.

This wasn’t the first time Mukhi has been called out for age-fudging. Back in 2015 during the Sub-Junior National Football Championship, Mukhi was one of the players in the Jharkhand side that were stripped of the honours after it was found that they were allegations of having a discrepancy with the registered age. The AIFF had then suspended the Jharkhand coach for a year and fined Rs one lakh on the association.
