It was a disappointing finish for host Bhutan as the Indian U-18 women’s football team defeated them in the third place match of the 2018 SAFF Under-18 Championship by 1-0. Forward Devneta Roy's lone strike at the 73rd minute proved to be the difference in the Sunday’s head to head game.

In the opening minutes of the game, the Indian girls controlled the tempo and dominated possession. In a trial to gain early possession, a shot went inches past the goal post  in the 11th minute. Four minutes later, there was another failed attempt from Devneta as she tried to tap home from close range after a left flank cross found her free inside the box.
Despite failed chances, first in the 24th minute and then in the 27th minute, Balamurugan failed to convert for the Indian eves. Bala’s shot from inside the goal missed the target which was followed by a header going over the bar.
In the second half, Bhutan dominated possession and created pressure. The light for the Indians came only in the 73rd minute after ample attacking in hordes, when Devneta after dodging past her defender, flipped the ball over the Bhutanese custodian to give India the decisive lead.
