Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has returned to his boyhood club, this time as a manager. The former England International hopes to emulate legendary manager Jose Mourinho's success at the club, with a positive result against Manchester United. Chelsea pay a visit to Old Trafford for the season opener.

New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed that he wants to emulate the way former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho started his tenure at Stamford Bridge. The former Blues boss lifted the Premier League trophy three times across two different spells at Stamford Bridge but started his tenure with a 1-0 home win against Manchester United.

While that did happen a little over 15 years ago and a lot has changed since then, Lampard is returning to the Premier League and he hopes to do the same. The former Blues midfielder featured in that fixture in 2004 and is looking forward to gain a similar momentum, this time with him at the helm.

“I remember the game, we didn't play particularly well, it wasn't a great game. We won 1-0 and it was a nice start for us because we'd had a good pre-season and all of our standards were lifted by Jose Mourinho. It would be great to have that momentum after the first game - it's the same because it's both the same teams we are talking about but it's not the end of the story.

We're going to a tough place in Old Trafford. The thing with football, and especially the top of the Premier League, is you can lose at those places. But we have to have a bigger picture than that. But, yes, of course, if we can get the early momentum by going there and getting a result, it certainly helped in the Jose Mourinho days and it will help us," explained Lampard.

The former Derby coach has played under numerous other successful coaches, including Guus Hiddink, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez, but refuses to single out the manager who has had a profound effect upon him.  With the imposition of a transfer ban, the 41-year-old has to make do with limited options and faces a stern test in his first competitive game as Chelsea manager.
