Bala Devi, who had a very public fallout with head coach Maymol Rocky, has been called up for the National team preparatory camp as the team prepares to get ready for COTIF Tournament in Spain. Devi is the only Manipur player, out of the seven who had boycotted the team, to get a call up.

The preparatory camp has been set up at the Jahwaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi for the upcoming COTIF Tournament in Spain which will be followed by the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022 Qualifiers. Bala Devi, who scored 26 goals in seven matches in the recently concluded Indian Women's League, was included in the squad of players.

Devi, along with fellow Manipur players Yumnam Kamala Devi, Kshetrimayum Margaret Devi, Kashmina MS, Umapati Devi, Elangbam Panthoi Chanu and Ranjibala Devi, had decided to boycott the national team citing differences with head coach Maymol Rocky and assistant Chaoba Devi. The group documented their concerns, where they accused Rocky and Chaoba of dividing the locker room, in a letter to the AIFF.
