La Liga Champions FC Barcelona want their prized asset, Lionel Messi, to stay at the club forever. The Catalonia based club is now planning to present a lifetime contract to the global superstar, that will make sure that Barcelona will be able to hold on to Messi for the remainder career.

Lionel Messi’s current contract with Barcelona expires in 2021, however, it also includes a clause that allows Messi to leave the club at the end of each summer. This allows Messi to terminate his contract with the La Liga giants if he wants to, next season, but Barcelona do not want to let go of the player. Mundo Deportivo reports that the club wishes to introduce a lifelong contract for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

It has been reported that Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu has always been interested in offering such a contract to Messi, while general director, Grascar Grau, has even spoken about it to the Assembly of Committees. However, the club is not hurrying itself with the contract negotiations as Messi has proven his loyalty to Barcelona numerous times in the past.

Messi is well aware of just what the club want to do and will be 35 years old by the time his current contract expires, but he is still in full control over his future at the Camp Nou and will be looking forward to playing football at least until the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
