Juventus Decide to Keep Fabio Miretti Despite Napoli Interest

Fabio Miretti, who scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 25 Serie A games on loan at Genoa, will remain at Juventus. Napoli reportedly offered over €14m before his pre-season injury, but Juve confirmed on August 9 he stays. With Douglas Luiz and Arthur Melo exiting, the 22-year-old midfielder is expected to gain more opportunities.

After the summer transfer speculation linking Fabio Miretti with a move away from Turin, Juventus have decided to keep hold of the young midfielder despite strong interest from Napoli. The 22 year old Italy international, who came through Juve’s academy, spent last season on loan at Genoa where he impressed with three goals and three assists in 25 Serie A appearances. Napoli were reportedly preparing a €14 million bid, but a muscular injury in pre-season complicated negotiations.

According to reports, Juventus informed Miretti and his agent Giovanni Branchini on August 9 that he would remain with the club. His representative compared Miretti’s path to former Juventus products Claudio Marchisio and Paolo De Ceglie, who returned stronger after loan spells before establishing themselves in the first team.

With Douglas Luiz expected to join Nottingham Forest and Arthur Melo likely to leave as well, Juventus believe Miretti can benefit from additional playing time this season. Turning 22 earlier in August, the midfielder already has one senior cap for Italy and is viewed as a long term asset for the club. Juventus are determined to give him the platform to grow further, rather than cash in on him at this stage.
