Real Madrid have decided not to trigger the €8 million buy-back clause for Nico Paz, who impressed with 6 goals and 9 assists at Como in 2024-25. With Franco Mastantuono joining and other midfield options available, Madrid stepped back. Como now hopes to retain Paz amid interest from Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.

After the 2024–25 season, Real Madrid has officially decided not to exercise their €8 million buy-back clause for Nico Paz, allowing Como to retain the young Argentine midfielder. The buy-back clause was valid until July 15, and would have risen to €9 million next year. However, with the arrival of Franco Mastantuono from River Plate and new coach Xabi Alonso preferring Arda Güler and Brahim Díaz in the attacking midfield roles, Paz no longer fits into Madrid’s plans.

This decision is a boost for Como, who see the 20-year-old as a key figure in their project under Cesc Fàbregas. Paz had a breakout season in Serie A, scoring 6 goals and providing 9 assists, and was named the league’s best U23 player. Despite Como’s delight, they now face a challenge in retaining him, with Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen showing interest.

Leverkusen’s pursuit may cool after landing Malik Tillman, but Inter remain keen, especially as they prepare for Champions League football and consider replacements for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and potentially departing Hakan Çalhanoğlu. If Como chooses to sell Paz, Real Madrid will receive 50 percent of the transfer fee, as part of the original agreement. Inter could offer both ambition and opportunity to the rising Argentine star.
