The Premier League will have two summer transfer windows in 2025 due to the expanded Club World Cup. The first window runs from June 1-10, followed by a break before reopening from June 16 to September 1. This aligns with FIFA’s global registration rules, ensuring Chelsea and Manchester City can sign players for the tournament, which features 32 teams, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

For the first time, the Premier League will have two summer transfer windows to accommodate Manchester City and Chelsea, who are competing in the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S. The first window runs from June 1-10, followed by a five-day break before reopening from June 16 to September 1. This adjustment aligns with FIFA’s 12-week summer transfer limit and ensures fair competition among Premier League clubs.

FIFA permits new player registrations for the Club World Cup between June 1-10 and again from June 27- July 3 for the knockout stage. This raises questions for players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are expected to join Real Madrid, and Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract with Manchester City expires on June 30. Clubs must decide whether to sign players early or wait for the knockout stage window.

Meanwhile, semi-automated offside technology, trialed in the FA Cup, could be introduced in the Premier League as early as April, pending successful tests. The system aims to reduce lengthy VAR delays, such as the record eight-minute stoppage during Bournemouth vs. Wolves. The technology relies on bespoke cameras installed at all 20 Premier League stadiums and could improve officiating efficiency.
