Flamengo are reportedly backing Joao Gomes’ potential transfer from Wolves to Manchester United, as they hold a 10 percent sell-on clause from his €18.7 million move in 2023. Despite Wolves’ poor season with nine losses in 11 games, Gomes has been a standout performer and is seen as a long-term replacement for Casemiro.

Starting with Manchester United’s summer signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, Wolves have struggled heavily in the Premier League, losing nine and drawing two of their 11 matches so far. Despite their poor form, midfielder Joao Gomes has been one of their standout performers, starting in nine league games and showing impressive composure, positional awareness, and aggression.

Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that Gomes may look to leave Wolves if they are relegated, and Manchester United have emerged as potential suitors, viewing him as a long-term replacement for Casemiro. Flamengo, Gomes’ former club, are reportedly “quietly rooting” for the transfer as they retained a 10 percent sell-on clause from his €18.7 million move to Wolves in January 2023.

A lucrative deal involving United could therefore earn the Brazilian side a significant financial boost. Although Wolves are unlikely to part ways with one of their best players in the January window, the situation could change by the end of the season if relegation looms. For Manchester United, Gomes’ blend of energy, passing quality, and tactical discipline makes him an ideal candidate to strengthen their midfield for the future.
