West Ham United have secured 19-year-old French defender Dimitri Colau from Paris FC for their U21 squad. Compared to Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his defensive style, Colau reunites with ex-teammate Mohamadou Kante, who has been likened to Patrick Vieira. Despite injury setbacks limiting him to one Ligue 2 appearance, Colau is eager to restart his career in East London.

As the summer transfer window closed, West Ham United quietly secured the signing of young French defender Dimitri Colau from Paris FC. The 19-year-old, who will turn 20 in five months, joins Mark Robson’s Under-21 squad rather than the first team, unlike big-money arrivals Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa who cost a combined £55 million. Colau reunites with former Paris FC teammate Mohamadou Kante, who has impressed since arriving in East London and has even drawn comparisons to Patrick Vieira.

Colau’s career has been hampered by injuries, with just one Ligue 2 appearance to his name, but he now hopes to leave fitness troubles behind. Known for his defensive strengths, Colau describes himself as a fighter who always gives his all. Primarily a right-back but formerly a centre-back, his style of play has been likened to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, prioritizing defensive solidity over attacking contributions.

With Junior Robinson loaned to Livingston, Colau could emerge as Robson’s first-choice right-back. Speaking about his move, Colau credited Kante for praising West Ham’s facilities and welcoming environment, which influenced his decision. Now fully recovered from surgery, the former France Under-16 international is determined to make his mark in claret and blue and prove himself at Premier League level.
