As the Fenerbahce presidential election approaches, candidate Hakan Safi has made a major statement by targeting Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski for a potential free transfer. Reports from Turkey claim that Safi has already submitted an official offer for the Polish star, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Lewandowski, 37, remains one of Europe's most respected forwards despite being in the latter stages of his career.
During the recently completed campaign, he featured in 46 matches for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 4 assists. The veteran striker is currently valued at €8 million and earns around €20.8 million per year with the Spanish club. According to journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Lewandowski is seeking a 2 year contract before deciding on his next destination. Safi has also promised an ambitious recruitment drive if elected, revealing that agreements have already been reached with 2 national team players.
He suggested that Fenerbahce could sign as many as 3 world class stars. Other players linked with Safi's plans include Mason Greenwood, Serhou Guirassy, and Turkish defender Merih Demiral. Meanwhile, rival candidate Aziz Yildirim is also reportedly interested in Guirassy and former Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi. The transfer rumours have intensified ahead of the club's presidential election scheduled for June 6 and 7.
