Brazil’s record scorer with 79 goals hopes to impress coach Carlo Ancelotti before upcoming friendlies.

As the debate around his fitness continues ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Neymar has responded strongly to critics who keep questioning his physical condition. The 34 year old forward recently missed Santos FC’s 2-2 league draw against Mirassol, a match attended by Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of the Brazil national football team. Santos coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda dismissed rumours of an injury and explained that the star was simply rested to manage his workload.

Vojvoda confirmed that Neymar felt no pain and was being carefully monitored after limited playing time in recent seasons. The coach added that the forward should be ready for the upcoming match against Corinthians. Neymar himself addressed the situation on social media, saying that people constantly create theories about him. He explained that when he plays through pain he is criticized, when he rests he is criticized, and when he focuses on himself people still complain. According to the Brazilian star, it has become very difficult to satisfy everyone.

The forward returned to action for Santos last month after minor knee surgery on Dec 22. Injuries have kept Brazil’s all time top scorer with 79 goals away from international football since Oct 2023. Brazil will soon play friendlies against France national football team on March 26 at Gillette Stadium and against Croatia national football team on March 31 in Orlando. Neymar hopes strong performances with Santos will help him earn a place in the squad.
