Anup Kumar to retire after Kabaddi World Cup
Indian Kabaddi skipper Anup Kumar will announce his retirement from the International circuit after the ongoing Kabaddi World Cup to pave way for the younger generation. However, the Arjuna awardee will continue playing in the Pro- Kabaddi League post his retirement from the circuit.
Anup Kumar made his debut against Sri Lanka in the 2006 South Asian Games and never looked back since then. He rose through the ranks to become one of the best Kabaddi players of the world and became the deputy to Rakesh Kumar in the Indian national team before taking over the reins as the skipper of the side in 2016. He has been an integral part of India’s triumph in the last two Asian games.
Anup Kumar said, “Now I look myself as a professional player. I want young players to come up so will retire from the international arena after the World Cup. My dream is to win the World Cup and I hope it will become true this year,” reported IANS.
Anup has also been arguably the best player and the face of the Pro Kabaddi League since its inception. Anup led U Mumba to the finals in all three seasons and won the title in 2015 and was also awarded the most valuable player in the first season.
