Indian Kabaddi Team dedicate World Cup victory to Uri Martyrs
Indian Kabaddi head coach Balwan Singh has dedicated the team's World Cup victory to the Indian Army soldiers who were martyred by the dastardly Uri attack by the Pakistani terrorists last month. He also asserted that they play and win the Trophy for the nation and not for any rewards.
India defeated Iran by 38-29 to lift their third consecutive Kabaddi World Cup in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Although they trailed by 13-18 at the half-way mark, India came back guns blazing in the second half riding on the superb performance of Ajay Thakur on their way to glory.
Indian Kabaddi Coach Balwan Singh was visibly a happy man after the team’s performance. He dedicated the Trophy to all the martyrs who were killed in the attack.
"We dedicate this win to our brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the terrorist attack in Uri," he said, reported IANS.
“We salute them. We had planned before the match that we will give something to the nation. We wanted to win the World Cup for our nation and our soldiers," he added.
He asserted that they play for the love and affection of the people and not to get any rewards.
"We do not play to get awards from the government. Getting honours is a secondary thing. We play for the nation. The love and support that the people give us is the biggest honour. Playing for the nation is an award in itself," he concluded.
