UP Yoddhas raider Surender Gill, part of the team for six seasons, says the Pro Kabaddi League has given him everything including fame and fortune. Calling Yoddhas his family, he highlighted the team’s positive culture, management support, and focus on player welfare. After last season’s narrow semifinal loss, Gill vowed to push for the title in PKL 2025.

When the Pro Kabaddi League began shaping careers, Surender Gill found his identity with UP Yoddhas. Having spent six seasons with the Lucknow-based franchise, Gill credits the league for everything he has achieved, from recognition to financial stability, but most importantly, for giving him a team that feels like family. Reflecting on last season’s heartbreak, where Yoddhas narrowly lost in the semi-final by what he described as “one raid,” Gill insists the focus now is on pushing past that barrier and securing their first title in PKL 2025.

He highlights the unique culture within UP Yoddhas, where player well-being takes priority, unlike in some teams where injured players are forced to compete. Gill believes this supportive environment, driven by coaches and management, fuels their consistency and positivity. Representing Uttar Pradesh, the Yoddhas embody grit, discipline, and relentless spirit, with most players rising from small-town struggles to national recognition.

Gill also praised GMR Sports, the franchise owners, for their grassroots initiatives and use of analytics to develop champions. Calling on fans to rally behind them, he promised that the semi-final disappointment of the previous season would not be repeated, as the Yoddhas aim to finally claim their maiden PKL crown.
