Lucknow Super Giants is one of the two new teams which were launched in the Indian Premier League ahead of the 2022 season. It is also known as the Lucknow IPL team and has played three seasons of the tournament till now, aiming for its first trophy. In 2021, the BCCI held bidding for the two franchises which they were planning to launch in the 2022 season. The RPSG Group won the bidding competition and got the Lucknow Super Giants team for a whopping price of 7090 crore INR. Lucknow Super Giants have been among the consistent performers in the Indian Premier League, as the team has been to the playoffs in two of the three seasons they have played.
IPL 2022
Lucknow Super Giants played its first IPL season in 2022 and were able to showcase impressive performances. The team finished at the 3rd spot in the league stages, with 9 wins in 14 matches. However, in the Eliminator match, they lost the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 14 runs, as Rajat Patidar from RCB smashed a century to help his team win. LSG's run in its first playoffs was short, but the team was able to showcase its dominance. KL Rahul was the top run scorer for the team with 616 runs, and Avesh Khan was the leading wicket-taker with 18 wickets.
IPL 2023
Continuing its dominance in the league stages of the Indian Premier League, Lucknow Super Giants was once again able to secure a spot in the tournament playoffs. With 8 wins in 14 matches, the team was able to end up at the 3rd spot once again in the league stages. This time also, LSG lost the Eliminator match against Mumbai Indians by 81 runs, missing out on their opportunity to reach the finals once again. Marcus Stoinis was the top run scorer for the team with 408 runs, and Ravi Bishnoi was the leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets.
IPL 2024
In the IPL 2024 season, Lucknow Super Giants' performance dropped drastically, as it was also the first time when the team missed out on the playoffs. With just 7 wins in 14 matches, the team ended up in the league stages at the 7th spot and also had some controversies between its former captain KL Rahul and owner Sanjeev Goenka. KL Rahul was once again the top run scorer for the team with 520 runs, and Naveen-ul-Haq was the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets.
LSG Aims to Win Maiden Title in 2025
Being among the few franchises in the Indian Premier League history to have not won the IPL, Lucknow Super Giants enters the next season with full hopes to secure a win and dominate throughout the season. It was also recently announced that Rishabh Pant is the new captain of the team, who'll also aim to achieve new heights in the IPL.
