IPL Auction | Will Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy decide fate of domestic players in mini-auction

Gujarat Titans has been one of the most dominant franchises in the Indian Premier League lately, and it was founded ahead of the IPL 2022 season. Following the inclusion of two new teams in 2022, Gujarat and Lucknow franchises were being sold in the auction. CVC Capital Partners bought the team in a bid in October 2021 for a massive total of 5625 crore INR. Since then, they have also been announced as the Gujarat IPL team owner. They have played a total of three seasons in the tournament, out of which the team also reached finals in two of them. Take a look at this blog to learn more about the GT IPL team.

Throughout the Years

Gujarat Titans has been a part of the Indian Premier League since the 2022 season and has established themselves as a dominant force in the tournament. Although the previous season did not go well for the team, it is expected to make a comeback in the IPL 2025 season.

IPL 2022

After the team franchise was sold ahead of the IPL 2022 season, the auction process started, and Hardik Pandya was ultimately appointed as the team's first captain. Playing its first season in the Indian Premier League, the Gujarat Titans were easily able to dominate in the league stages, as they finished at the top spot with 10 wins in 14 matches. In the first qualifier, they went against the Rajasthan Royals and were also able to secure a dominant win by 7 wickets. Later in the tournament finals, the team faced the Rajasthan Royals. The results were the same, with the Gujarat Titans winning their maiden IPL title by defeating the Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. Hardik Pandya was the top run scorer for the team with 487 runs, and Mohammed Shami led the wicket-taking charts with 20 wickets.

IPL 2023

Continuing its dominance in the Indian Premier League, the Gujarat Titans were also able to perform well in the IPL 2023 season. In the league stages, they were able to finish at the top spot once again, having secured wins in 10 out of 14 matches. As the team went into the playoffs, they faced Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier. Unfortunately, they lost the game by 15 runs and went on to face the Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier. GT was able to bounce back quickly after the loss, as they defeated the Mumbai Indians by 62 runs to reach the finals again. The finals were intense against Chennai Super Kings, as CSK won the match with 5 wickets and no balls remaining, with Gujarat missing out on their second consecutive title. Shubman Gill was the top run scorer for the team with 890 runs, and Mohammed Shami was once again the leading wicket-taker with 28 wickets.

IPL 2024

The 2024 season was one that the Gujarat Titans and their fans would like to forget, as the team's performance dropped drastically this season. One of the major reasons behind the same was a change in captaincy, as the Mumbai Indians bought Hardik Pandya, and Shubman Gill was appointed as the new captain of the team. This also led to a drop in the team's performance, as they finished in 8th spot in the league stages with just 5 wins in 14 matches. Sai Sudharsan was the top run scorer for the team this season with 527 runs, and Mohit Sharma was the leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets.

IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans showed strong progress in the 2025 season under captain Shubman Gill. The team finished 3rd in the league stage with 9 wins out of 14 matches, which marked a clear improvement compared to 2024. They reached the playoffs but lost in the Eliminator, which ended their run before the final. Even with that result, the season showed that the team was back on track and able to compete at a high level again. Sai Sudharsan had an outstanding year and became the top run scorer of the tournament with 759 runs. Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler also added important runs and supported the batting unit well. In bowling, Prasidh Krishna stood out with 25 wickets and ranked among the leading bowlers of the season. Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore also played key roles and helped strengthen the attack.

Can the Gujarat Titans Bounce Back in the 2026 Season?

Gujarat Titans go into the 2026 season with confidence after a strong 2025 performance. The squad looks balanced, with reliable batters like Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, along with experienced players such as Jos Buttler and Rashid Khan.

The bowling unit has depth with Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna leading the attack. Leadership under Gill and guidance from coach Ashish Nehra bring stability to the team.

The next step for the Gujarat Titans is to turn playoff qualification into a title win. If key players keep their form and the team performs well in knockout matches, they have a real chance to fight for the IPL 2026 trophy.
