Carlos Brathwaite, who smashed four sixes in a row to lead the Windies to the World T20 title, was back in Kolkata on Saturday, this time for Delhi Daredevils' match against the home side. Speaking to the media, the all-rounder opened up about his admiration for Rahul Dravid and much more.

Delhi Daredevils, who have been the perennial underachievers in the Indian Premier League, have assembled a youthful squad for the ninth edition, and one of their main weapons Carlos Brathwaite seemed happy to be making his IPL debut at the Eden Gardens under the guidance of his idol Rahul Dravid.

“The title is one of the many important things (want at the end of the IPL) and hopefully, I can take that. I am privileged enough to come into the team as a World Cup winner and be able to take some lessons and I hope I impact a youngster in the dressing room.

“I also find myself privileged enough to be working along with someone I have idolised all my career, Rahul Dravid. We had a couple of chats and it is good to hear from him as a person and as a player on what are the areas that I would look to improve on in terms of playing spin. I hope that at the end of six weeks I go back to the West Indies with a better understanding of how to play spin bowling and how to rotate it and how to score off it and how to take that knowledge from the IPL back, “ Brathwaite told reporters on Saturday, reported the Hindu.

When asked about his quick rise to stardom after smashing four sixes in the final over of the World T20, the all-rounder claimed that he is fully aware of the challenges and is keen to focus on the job at hand.

“I would be honest and say that it has been a bit of a challenge. I had time management problems to begin with, making sure that I did all the interviews and commitments. But now I am aware of the challenges that this new stardom has brought me and it something that I look forward to, “ said the West Indian.

With South African all-rounder Chris Morris also part of the Daredevils squad, Brathwaite will have to perform at his best to keep his place in the team. But the 27-year old is not bothered by the competition in the squad and said that he is ready to play any role the team wants him to.

“I will bat wherever the team requires and if the team decides that they need to use me at a particular number then I need to adapt to that position and do the best I can for my team. It is about adapting all the time to make sure that the Delhi Daredevils come out on top in each and every game,” said Brathwaite.
