Rising Pune Supergiants faced another major blow today with batsman Faf du Plessis being ruled out of the rest of this year’s IPL with a broken finger. The blow comes after the Pune franchise had lost the services of former England batsman Kevin Pietersen for the season earlier this week.

The South African T20 captain tweeted the news on Thursday, confirming his injury.

Du Plessis is the second-highest run-scorer for the Rising Pune Supergiants team this season, scoring 206 runs at an average of 34.33 in six matches. The South African had scored consecutive fifties against Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab.

The injury to the South African captain comes days after a calf tear ended Kevin Pietersen’s stint in the IPL. The M S Dhoni-led team are seventh in the table after winning just two of their six matches. The Pune team will next face Gujarat Lions in their next match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium on April 29.
