Ajinkya Rahane could also miss the limited-overs leg against England to be played in the second half of January following a fracture on his index finger that ruled him out of the final two Tests. The batsman suffered the injury during practice a day before the ongoing fourth Test in Mumbai.

Rahane suffered an avulsion fracture on his right index finger, the injury ending his hopes of playing in a Test match in front of his home crowd for the first time in his career.

The teams are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20I starting on Jan 15 in Pune after England return following a break.

In a report in Cricbuzz website, an unnamed source has said the injury has put the batsman out of action for over a month, and his possible return would be very close to the first ODI.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Hardik Pandya already appears to be ruled out of the ODIs following a hairline fracture on his right shoulder.
