Jayant Yadav and Axar Patel could miss England series

After missing the Chennai Test due to a hamstring injury, Indian offspinner Jayant Yadav will miss out on the ODI series as well according to a report by the Times of India. Yadav made an exceptional start to his international career in the three Tests he played against England. Not only was the spinner effective with the ball, but he made some useful contributions with the bat as well scoring his maiden half-century and century in consecutive matches.

Axar Patel, on the other hand, has been ruled out of contention for the ODI series against England that starts on Jan 15 in Pune because of a thumb injury. The left arm spinner was brought into the Test set-up as a cover in the Chennai Test. However, he landed on his thumb while on the field as a substitute fielder. According to TOI, Patel has suffered a ligament tear in his left thumb and after missing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Gujarat against Orissa, he is likely to miss the limited overs series as well. 

The 22-year-old consulted orthopaedic surgeon Sudhir Warrier and reports suggest that the spinner might need to get a surgery done on his bowling hand, which would render him unavailable for the ODIs and three T20 matches that England are scheduled to play in India.

The national selectors are going to decide the team, that will play in the limited overs series, in Mumbai on Jan 5 or 6. The committee will have a task on their hands with Rohit Sharma (thigh), Ajinkya Rahane (broken finger), and Ravichandran Ashwin (sports hernia) major doubts for the series.
