Sunil Gavaskar picks Ajinkya Rahane over Virat Kohli as India's most complete batsman
Sunil Gavaskar believes that Ajinkya Rahane is the most complete Indian batsman at the moment after his magnificent 188-run knock helped India to a big total in the first innings of the third Test in Indore. Gavaskar feels that Kohli's belief in Rahane's ability has helped him blossom as a player.
"Ajinkya Rahane is India's most complete batsman at this stage. Like Virat Kohli, he is never satisfied by what he does. I am sure Virat will acknowledge how important a role Rahane has played for India. When you have the confidence of your captain, you are motivated to do even better," Gavaskar said, reported Zee News.
Virat Kohli, who became the first Indian to score two double centuries as captain, and Rahane came together at 100/3 forging a memorable 365-run partnership to place India in control of the match. Rahane, who departed 12 runs short of what would have been his first double hundred, stressed upon the importance of preparing oneself for the conditions they are likely to face before the series.
"It was hot out there today. I was struggling yesterday against the short ball and Virat told me to take my time. Today I wanted to dominate after getting the hundred. This partnership will stay in memory for a long time.
"Hard work is part of my routine. Preparations are always important for me. I practised in Mumbai for 5-6 days. I practised on slow wickets as in India they are slow and spin-friendly and each track is different. Here, for example, some balls came slow and some fast," Rahane said.
