MS Dhoni has admitted to a Level 1 offence for his sarcastic DRS gesture during the match between RPS and MI. The Pune wicket-keeper was seen showing the DRS referral sign when Kieron Pollard was caught plumb in front of the stumps but the umpire seemed to be unperturbed by the appeal.

Over the years, it was the calm and composedness that has gone on to define MS Dhoni as a cricketer and a captain. His value towards the spirit of cricket has been one worth emulating. But, yesterday, while the Rising Pune Supergiant started their season with a huge win over Mumbai Indians, MS Dhoni had to suffer the result of breaching of the IPL code of conduct.

In the 15th over the match, the RPS team went up appealing for an LBW. Kieron Pollard was caught on the pads in front of the stumps in an Imran Tahir delivery. But that didn't affect the umpire as he nodded his head in disagreement with the players and Dhoni was seen signalling a referral as a sarcastic gesture to make his disagreement evident. But that wasn't in the spirit of the game as match referee Manu Nayar ruled Dhoni's referral gesture as a breach of the IPL code of conduct.

"MS Dhoni admitted the Level 1 offence (Article 2.1.1) for conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game", read an IPL statement.

It further went on to add,"For Level 1 breaches of the IPL code of conduct, the Match Refree's decision is final and binding."

The replay showed the reason for Dhoni's disagreement. Pollard was indeed caught plumb in front of the stumps and the decision should have been in RPS's favour.
