Purnima Rau has been replaced by Tushar Arothe as the Indian women cricket team head coach. The former Indian captain was disappointed with the decision as she had been doing well with the team and was taken aback by BCCI's decision. Tushar Arothe welcomed the decision with open arms.

The Indian women cricket team saw a drastic change in their management just ahead of the 2017 World Cup. Tushar Arothe has been appointed the head coach in place of the sacked Purnima Rau.

Tushar Arothe, the Baroda batsman has been appointed till the World Cup to be held coming June-July.

Purnima Rau was displeased at the decision and was apparently not informed by the BCCI about the decision.

"I have been a very successful coach and have been part of eight series wins in the past two years. Without any information or talking to me, they removed me", the former Indian captain told PTI.

Rau had a pretty decent record as the Indian coach and coached the side to their first ever bilateral series win in Australia in 2016. The most recent achievement that makes the decision even more controversial was Indian team's victory over their arch rival Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup in Bangkok.

Rau was first appointed in February 2014 but was sacked after India's early exit from the T20 World Cup that year. She was later appointed in June 2015 and had an impressive stint as the Indian women's coach. She stated that she was happy with whatever money she got and further said that she won't take up the matter with the BCCI because she does not want to disturb the team.

Rau quoted,"I accepted whatever was given. I had ideals about the team, country," in relevance to the money she was paid.

On the other hand, Arothe was happy with the opportunity of coaching the Indian women team. He had been the women's team fielding coach and the head coach between 2008 and 2012.

"I've had prior experience of coaching the women's team, so familiarity, at least with the seniors, won't be an issue ", Arothe quoted to ESPNcricInfo.

The Indian team will be competing in a quadrangular series in South Africa next month. Ireland and Zimbabwe will be their competitors.

The tournament will be followed by the all important 2017 Women World Cup where India will start their proceedings against England.
