Former England off-spinner Monty Panesar has credited Gautam Gambhir for backing Nitish Rana’s potential to succeed after the duo played for the LB Shastri club in New Delhi and had the same coach in Sanjay Bharadwaj. Rana is the current highest run-scorer in IPL 2017.

Monty Panesar is the latest one to be impressed by Nitish Rana’s batting skills in the ongoing IPL 2017. Rana has set the tournament alight by scoring 255 runs including three half-centuries in six games.

The middle-order batsman has been the mainstay in the Mumbai Indians lineup with consistent performances in every game so far. And Panesar credited Gambhir for backing Rana’s talent after seeing the potential that the Mumbai batsman possessed when they were both playing for the LB Shastri Club in New Delhi.

The 34-year old off-spinner who plays for Northamptonshire nowadays also thanked the KKR skipper Gambhir in his tweet as he might have given the cricketing world a new ‘star’.

Finally, there is no denying that Gambhir must be proud of his scout though he and Rana now play for different teams in the IPL.
