Rohit Sharma flies home for fitness test

The BCCI medical team has confirmed that Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will undergo a medical check up, as a follow up after his recent surgery. Sharma is a part of the Indian side that is currently touring Sri Lanka, but he hasn't featured in the first two Test matches of the series.

India started their tour of Sri Lanka on a winning note as they won the first Test match in Galle by 304 runs. Moreover, even in the second game of the series which started today in the Colombo, they find themselves in a strong position having put 344 runs on the scoreboard at the end of the first day. 

But in both the Tests so far, Sharma has been out of the playing XI. Now, he is returning to India for a medical check-up. However, the board clarified that there is no health or fitness concern and Sharma will fly to Mumbai later today i.e. August 3, 2017, and will rejoin the team tomorrow i.e. August 4, 2017.

The Indian opener suffered a hip injury to during India's home ODI series against New Zealand in October last year, following which he missed consecutive series on home turf against England, Bangladesh and Australia. He made his comeback in the IPL earlier this year and led his side to their third IPL title and later joined the Indian team for the Champions Trophy.
