Malinda Pushpakumara's attempt at reverse slog on the fourth day of the Colombo Test made for a hilarious watching today. The nightwatchman tried to slog Ashwin out of the way but failed miserably as the off-spinner was able to rattle the debutant's stump to trigger Sri Lanka's collapse.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s 5 for 69 helped India dismissed Sri Lanka for just 183 in their first innings and helped India take a massive 439-run lead in the first innings. Sri Lanka were asked to bat again in the second innings as India enforced the follow on. Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne built an incredible 191-run partnership for the third wicket, but Mendis got out in the fag end of the day, which made way for the debutant Malinda Pushpakumara to come to bat as a night-watchman. Although he did well to hang around there for quite some time, he failed to sustain the pressure generated by the Indian spinners and tried to produce a new shot - reverse slog sweep.

The incident took place at 73rd over of the Sri Lanka’s second innings. Being unsure about what to do, he reversed his stance but failed to connect it properly and as a result, he lost his wicket.
