CAB to honor Jhulan Goswami with a Rs 10 Lakh cash reward

The 34-year-old Goswami has established herself as a veteran of the women’s game, having made her debut in 2002.  Given that she also recently scripted history by breaking Australian Cathryn Fitzpatrick’s record of 180 wickets to become the highest wicket taker in women's ODIs, the CAB has decided to felicitate the Bengal cricketer’s contribution to Indian Women’s Cricket.

Goswami had a good outing at the recently concluded ICC Women’s Cup as she was an integral part of the team that made it to the final. She impressed in the final as well, as she finished with figures of 3/23 to restrict England to 228/7 in 50 overs. However, she and the Indian batting line-up could not keep their collective nerve when it came to the chase as India suffered a narrow 9-run defeat in the final and thereby lost a golden opportunity to win India’s first women’s World Cup title. 

Speaking of India’s performance in the final, Goswami said, "We tried our level best in the final but unfortunately in cricket, nothing can be predicted. In the last one hour, the match turned on its head and we ended on the losing side. This is life," according to News18.

The Indian all-rounder was addressing a bunch of students from a sports school in Kolkata and reminded them of the importance of sports, saying, "Participation in sports is very important for the students as the field teaches us a lot as to how to tackle problems in life without getting disappointed, to taking anyone's help."
