With this conquest, Virat Kohli overtook MS Dhoni and became the Indian captain with second-most overseas wins - 7 victories in Tests. Renowned Sourav Ganguly holds the first position with 11 victories.

Earlier, the tourists had shrugged off 2015 Galle loss by captivating a considerable 304-run victory over the Lankans in the first Test match. When at Colombo for the second, the team took an indisputable 2-0 lead in the series, prevailing by an innings and 53 runs at SSC Ground.

Consequently, Virat Kohli has a total of seven overseas victories now, with the second position on the list among Indian skippers. The two matches in Sri Lanka when they had finished 2-1 in 2015, two more in West Indies in 2016 and finally, all the three matches in Sri Lanka, in this series.

The 28-year-old skipper has gone beyond his predecessor MS Dhoni who had the record of six such wins.

Now, Team India will have to counter the influential and highly anticipated South Africa series coming up early next year in the Rainbow nation. Analysts are eager to see whether the Indians can survive the Proteas attack.
