After a comprehensive 3-0 series victory against a depleted Sri Lankan side, India have moved clear of the chasing packs and now extended their lead over second-placed South Africa by 15 points. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, after yet another horrible series, continue to languish at seven.

After getting bowled out for a paltry 135 runs in the first innings, Sri Lankan batsmen surrendered once again in the second innings as India continued their dream run in the Tests to seal the series 3-0 at Kandy. Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami were amongst the wickets on Monday as the hosts failed to go past 200 once again to suffer their worst home series loss ever.

The crushing victory not only helped the Indian players see a rise in their individual rankings, it also helped India strengthen their position as the No.1 team of the World. Now, the Virat Kohli-led team are now 15 rating points ahead of South Africa in the ICC Test rankings.

India will now play Sri Lanka in a limited-overs series and will stand a chance to further make progress on the rankings table when they host the Lankan Lions yet again for a full-fledged series in November-December.

Meanwhile, England will host the West Indies team for a three-Test series starting Thursday, which it may have to win in order to remain in the third position, depending on the results of a two-Test series between Bangladesh and Australia that starts later this month. Australia will go up to 101 points if it wins the series 2-0.
