Shikhar Dhawan : I embrace lean periods just as I embrace successful ones

Shikhar Dhawan can seemingly do no wrong at the moment. After making a comeback to the team for the Champions Trophy, where he played a major role in taking India to the final, he continued his fine form on the tour of the West Indies and yesterday, he managed to score a third century on the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka. 

Following these performances, Dhawan himself believes that he is back to his best. "I feel I am playing with the same flow that I had when I made a comeback in 2013 and to some extent, it is like how I fared during this Champions Trophy," he said after picking up the man of the match award for his unbeaten 132 yesterday in Dambulla. 

What makes the southpaw’s ongoing form even more commendable is the fact that it comes after he lost his place in the Indian side due to a lack of form and injury concerns. But Dhawan revealed that despite the failures that he has seen in his career so far, his attitude towards the game never changed.

"I have undergone slumps in my career so I don't think too much about it. When it has to come it will come. I embrace lean periods too just as I am embracing the successful period now. When I was not doing well, I was just focussing on my processes. And when I am doing well, I am still focusing on my processes. So, those things don't bother me much. I feel failure teaches you a lot and I am lucky to have learned so much from that," he added.

Finally, asked whether he is already preparing for the next World Cup scheduled in 2019, Dhawan said, "It's still a long way off. I would just like to keep performing well as there are such great batsmen in our side that anyone can take anybody's place and secondly, I would like to keep my fitness at a high level," he added.
