Australian speedster Mitchell Starc and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have parted ways just a day before the Indian Premier League 2017 player auction. Starc’s exit has now allowed RCB to enter the auction with an additional purse of Rs 5 crore and an additional overseas player’s slot.

The Indian Premier League's official Twitter handle first declared the news via a tweet and announced that Starc and Bangalore had decided to discontinue their association ahead of 2017 season. Then after sometime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development with an official statement.

The release stated, “The Royal Challengers Bangalore and fast bowler Mitchell Starc have mutually decided to discontinue their association ahead of the upcoming season of VIVO Indian Premier League 2017 in accordance with Regulation 41 of the IPL Player Regulations.

“The Bangalore franchise will go into tomorrow’s VIVO IPL Player Auction 2017 with an additional purse of INR 5 Crore and an additional slot for an overseas player.”

Starc, who has been associated with the franchise since 2014, missed the previous edition due to injury.
