Mohammed Shami eyes Vijay Hazare Trophy for quick international comeback
Mohammed Shami is eyeing a return for the ongoing Test series against Australia by proving his fitness in the last two rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The pace spearhead sustained a knee injury during the third Test against England in November that put him out of competitive cricket.
The Bengal bowler had worked on his rehab and his fitness at the National Cricket Academy and will return to the Bengaluru facility this week to assess his fitness. Shami will have to prove his form and fitness in a domestic game for an international comeback.
“I don’t know yet but if I’m fully fit and comfortable to play, then I may play the last two matches (of Bengal in Vijay Hazare Trophy in Chennai),” Shami told PTI.
Top-ranked India trail 1-0 in the four-Test series against Australia after losing the opening Test by 333 runs in under three days. Shami, however, is confident that the hosts will bounce back quickly.
"Let's look forward, there's still a lot of cricket left in the series. Win and loss is part of the game. We may have a bad day. Let's not blame anyone and try to focus on the remaining matches. I'm sure we would bounce back," he said.
