Adam Zampa, Mitch Marsh charged for breaching code of conduct in BBL
Australia spinner Adam Zampa and all-rounder Mitch Marsh have been fined for breaching the code of conductin their respective Big Bash League matches last night. Zampa was fined $2000 by Cricket Australia for breaking his bat, while Marsh was penalized $2500 for questioning an umpiring decision.
In the Melbourne Derby yesterday, Melbourne Stars leg-spinner Adam Zampa had broken his bat after being run out late in the Stars' unsuccessful run chase against Melbourne Renegades. While walking off the ground, he slammed his bat into the MCG turf, only to see it snap at the handle.
On the basis of the report of the Match referee, Cricket Australia has penalized the player. The statement by CA read, “Zampa was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Conduct Article 2.1.2 – Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match – a level 1 offense," reported cricket.com.au.
"As per the CA Code of Conduct procedure, the Match Referee, Steve Bernard, considered the umpires’ written report and offered a proposed sanction of a reprimand and $2,000 fine.
"Zampa accepted the sanction and no hearing was required."
Perth Scorchers all-rounder Mitch Marsh was also fined $2500, after questioning the square leg umpire regarding a possible waist-high no-ball that wasn't given.
Cricket Australia added in the statement, “Marsh was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Conduct Article 2.1.3 – Showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during a match – a level 1 offence.
"As per the CA Code of Conduct procedure, the Match Referee, Daryl Harper, considered the umpires’ written report, and offered a proposed sanction of a $2,500.”
Marsh elected to contest the charge and the Match Referee conducted a hearing at the venue.
"After considering all parties reasoning, the match referee upheld the original decision of guilty and the sanction of a $2,500 fine."
