Virat Kohli opted for an unsuccessful review in the third ODI against England in Kolkata without asking Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his suggestion and it proved to be a tame appeal. Although Dhoni appealed for a leg-before to dismiss Eoin Morgan, he tried to stop Kohli from going for the review.

Dhoni may have stepped down from the captaincy, but his decision-making is as sharp as ever. This was in full view in the first ODI match against England in Pune when he asked Kohli to go for a review, which turned out to be a successful one. Today, Dhoni, yet again, showed his unfaltering assurance but Virat Kohli was a bit driven by the appeal of the former skipper and didn’t ask him before opting for the review.

The incident occurred in the 29th over of the first innings when a sound resonated as the ball hit the thigh pad of Morgan. It looked like an inside edge onto the pad before the ball found its way into the gloves of Dhoni. Looking at Dhoni’s appeal, Kohli immediately went for the review, without asking his former skipper once. Dhoni was signaling him to not go for it, but Kohli had already signaled the umpire.

Third Umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge checked for the edge and found the sound was from the thigh pad and not the willow. He also checked for the lbw, but the ball had pitched outside leg stump.

The on-field decision was retained, but it was proved yet again that why calling “DRS” as the “Dhoni Review System” is not be an exaggeration and the Twitterati made sure Kohli knew about his mistake.
