ICC Women's World Cup | Mithali Raj becomes the highest run-scorer in Women's ODI history

Mithali Raj needed to score just 34 runs to surpass Charlotte Edwards, who recently retired in 2016, in India's fifth match in the Women's World Cup against Australia and the Indian skipper did it with ease when she took a single of Elise Perry in the 29th over of Indian innings.

The currently active women cricketers who are closest to Mithali's total of runs are West Indies' Stafanie Taylor and New Zealand's Suzie Bates at the 7th and 8th spot with 3817 and 3689 runs respectively. Raj also became the first women to reach the first women to reach the 6000 run mark in the 30th over and brought up the landmark with a six in the 30th off Kristeen Beams.

In the men's category, the record for most runs in ODIs is held by none other than Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar for his 18426 runs.

After being asked to bat first, India are now at 117/1 with Raj (50) and Punam Raut (61) at the crease, as India try to take another step towards the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup being held in England. India are looking to get back to winning ways after suffering their first loss of the  tournament against South Africa on Saturday.
