BCCI names Sunil Subramaniam as India's first full-time manager
The Board of Control for Cricket in India named former Tamil Nadu captain Sunil Subramaniam as India's first full-time administrative manager and will be contracted for a period of one year. Subramanian will join the Indian team ahead of the start of the team's second Test against Sri Lanka.
Sunil Subramaniam was selected by a special committee comprising BCCI acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji from among10 candidates shortlisted for the post. The selection was made in accordance with the Lodha Committee's recommendations and also after Indian skipper Virat Kohli and former head coach Anil Kumble had requested the same.
Subramaniam will be contracted for a period of one year as opposed to the earlier arrangement where a manager was appointed on a tour-to-tour basis. The 50-year old would be meeting Johri on Monday and will be briefed about his duties.
"It feels good to be a part of the team," Subramaniam told ESPNcricinfo.
Subramaniam, a left-arm spinner, represented Tamil Nadu and Assam in his first-class career and scalped 285 wickets in the 74 matches that he played. The 50-year old is well-known for his work with India's premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He is an NCA certified coach, has mentored teams in the Duleep Trophy and has been associated with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association Academy as well.
A BCCI press release on his appointment read,"He has a rich vein of experience when it comes to management and administrative capabilities, having served both public and private sector organisations for over 16 years."
