There is a possibility that today’s much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan may be spoiled by rain as weather reports in Edgbaston show a 40% chance of the game being interrupted by rain. The last game played at Edgbaston ended up being abandoned after the minimum overs could not be completed.
India and Pakistan are no strangers to having the rain gods intervene in clashes between them, given that the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy encounter between the two arch-rivals at the same venue was also curtailed by rain. However, there is a 40% chance that today’s encounter might also see the skies open up, according to weather.com.
The weather in Edgbaston has already restricted India to indoor practice sessions for the eagerly awaited clash. Rains have already caused a few interruptions in the tournament so far, with the second match between Australia and New Zealand to be abandoned on Friday. Moreover, the warm-up game between Australia and Pakistan was also washed out after just 10.2 overs of play.
During the last edition of the tournament as well, India and Pakistan played a rain-curtailed match, which was reduced to a 40-over a side before India got a revised target of 102 runs from 22 overs, which Dhoni and Co. eventually won by eight wickets.
If the match does go ahead, it’ll be the first ODI game India vs Pakistan game in more than two years.
