WATCH | AB de Villiers takes one-handed stunner to dismiss Kusal Mendis
South African skipper AB de Villiers got his team the much-needed breakthrough 'single-handedly' through an exquisite effort in the outfield. The 33-year old timed his jump to perfection to send Kusal Mendis to the dressing room, a wicket that shifted the momentum in South Africa's favour.
Sri Lanka seemed to be breezing towards the 300-run target that South African had set them scoring 69 runs at the loss of a single wicket in the powerplay overs.
However, just when the game appreared to be heading towards an easy Sri Lankan win, it was AB de Villiers whose stunning effort slowed down their innings and proved to be a major bump in their smooth ride. The incident in question occurred in the 12th over when Chris Morris was brought on to bowl. On the 5th delivery of his over, Morris bowled a good length ball which was slow off the wicket and Kusal Mendis lobbed the ball over the off side. The ball looked to be clearing de Villiers at mid-on and heading for yet another Sri Lankan boundary.
However, the South African skipper was in no mood to stand and watch the ball go over his head as he jumped and stretched his body full-length to gobble up a stunner and get a crucial breakthrough for his side.
AB de Villiers' commendable flight and exquisite timing provided a spectacle to cherish for years to come.
