Steve Waugh believes that Virat Kohli and Co will quickly bounce back from the defeat in the first Test due to their proud nature. Waugh felt another reason why India would prove a difficult foe in the second Test is because their players won't play "as badly as they did in the first Test".

Top-ranked India came into the series as the clear favourites with fans expecting them to wrap up the series quite easily. However, a 333-run defeat in Pune brought everyone crashing down to earth.

“They have got a leader (Virat Kohli) who is an intensely competitive person. He will be wounded after that loss in Pune,” Waugh told TOI. “That’s because there were some captaincy decisions and probably some criticism which is new to him because he hasn’t got that before."

The loss was attributed to the poor performance of almost all the players., who failed to deliver in every aspect of the game.

“He’s a proud lad and he will do everything to come back. The pitch (in Bengaluru) seems like it will be a lot easier for the batsmen," Waugh said. “The momentum is lost comprehensively, but India have good players who won’t play as badly as they did in the first Test.”
