Ravichandran Ashwin and David Warner were involved in a thrilling battle that ended with the off-spinner getting the Australian opener with a delivery that ripped past the bat on pitching to uproot the off-stump. Left-handed Warner scored 33 in Australia's first innings.

Ashwin was outstanding on the second morning as he varied his length, line and width of spin. The tall off-spinner also used the rough caused by footmarks outside leg-stump for left-handers.

Australia's overnight pair of Warner and Matt Renshaw batted beautifully to take their opening-wicket stand past fifty and the pressure began to mount on the hosts who were bowled out for 189 in their first innings after opting to bat.

Top-ranked India desperately needed a breakthrough and looked up to Ashwin for that.

Ashwin delivered, sending back the dangerous Warner.
