Ian Chappell believes Umesh Yadav’s opening spell on the third day of the final Test helped set up India's victory. The former Australia skipper also praised the pacer's performances throughout India's home Test season, appreciated Ajinkya Rahane’s aggressiveness and Ravindra Jadeja's improvement.

"Umesh Yadav has been a real hero for India, and it's not just in this Test match, he has done well in the whole series and throughout the whole summer. To perform in so many Test matches and to have that sort of fire that he had at the start of Australian second innings, it was almost like he was determined that Australia were going to lose quite a few wickets before they got rid of the arrears. I thought he did a terrific job. Really (it was) the fire of Umesh Yadav that did the trick for India," Chappell told ESPNCricinfo.

Umesh has become the toast of the cricket-crazy country after a fine bowling display that helped India bowl out Australia for as little as 137 on the third day of the fourth and final Test in Dharamsala. India reached the required 106 runs to win with 8 wickets to spare and regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-1 series win.

Chappell also believes that the resilient partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha knocked the stuffing out of the Aussies. He also credited stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane for supporting his bowlers with attacking field and also praised the improvement in Ravindra Jadeja's performances.
