Anil Kumble's letter to BCCI for Champions Trophy participation could land him in trouble

Anil Kumble’s letter to the BCCI sharing the team’s interest in participating in the ICC Champions Trophy in England next month hasn’t gone down well with senior officials who felt it was BCCI's call. An unnamed BCCI official said the letter that the India coach wrote could land him in trouble.

Uncertainty looms large over India’s participation in the Champions Trophy after the BCCI missed the April 25 deadline for naming the 15-man squad. Although the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) are against the withdrawal, the BCCI emphasized that it was in Indian cricket’s best interest to issue a notice to the International Cricket Council with regard to the breach of the Members Participation Agreement.

Meanwhile, Kumble has written a letter to the board on the team’s interest to play the global event.

Describing it as the institution’s call, a senior board official told the Hindustan Times, “It is the institution which decides, and not one individual. Kumble writing to the Board about his decision of wanting to play in the Champions Trophy was uncalled for. He had no business in doing this.”

Another senior functionary told the newspaper, "Kumble is going to be on a sticky wicket for this act once the Board members take control of BCCI. It is just a matter of time.”
