VVS Laxman awarded honorary life membership by MCC

Considered as one of the best Test batsmen of his era, VVS Laxman enjoyed a fairly successful international successful career and played as many as 134 Tests and 86 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Indian scoring 8,781 Test runs at an impressive average of 45.97 and 2338 ODI runs at 30.76. 

Apart from being one of the linchpins in the Indian middle-order during a successful era, the stylish Hyderabadi had also represented England county club, Lancashire twice - 2007 and 2009. In 2008, he, as an icon player, captained Deccan Chargers in the first-ever edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. 

After being inducted into the prestigious list, Laxman said, "It's an absolute honour to become a member at such a prestigious and historic cricket club. I have always admired the rich heritage the Club stands for and I look forward to being a part of the incredible culture of the Club."

John Stephenson, MCC Assistant Secretary welcomed Laxman to the club by saying, "It's a pleasure to welcome VVS Laxman as an Honorary Life Member of the Club. He was a wonderfully talented batsman and a fantastic servant to cricket in India, making him fully deserving of this honour. It was always a joy to watch him when he played here and we look forward to him returning to Lord's as an MCC Member.
