WATCH | Surrey- Middlesex match suspended after crossbow arrow lands in the Oval
Surrey and Middlesex players were caught in an unusual situation on the fourth day of a county match at the Oval, yesterday, as a crossbow bolt landed near the pitch where Surrey's Rory Burns was standing. Authorities had to suspend the game and the stewards asked the fans to take cover.
The County Championship game between Surrey and Middlesex, that ended up as a draw, had to be stopped after an arrow was fired from outside the ground and landed on the field.
The incident occurred in the 69th over of Middlesex’s second innings when Scott Borthwick delivered the first ball to John Simpson and got a boundary but before he bowled the second delivery a crossbow bolt entered the field. An 18 inches long metal arrow landed near Surrey fielder Burns. All the players seemed surprised and failed to understand what had just transpired. The ground umpires were quick to ask the players to leave the ground and decided to end the match as a draw.
Fortunately, there was no news of anybody's injury.
