Pakistan born South African cricketer Imran Tahir took to Twitter to express the embarrassment he and his family faced when he visited Pakistani consulate, Birmingham, to acquire the visa to play for World XI in Pakistan. Matters resolved after the intervention of High Commissioner Syed Ibne Abbas.

South Africa leg spinner Imran Tahir is not known for his activities on social media. But, the 38-year-old had to create a Twitter account on Tuesday to shed light on the humiliation he experienced by the Pakistan High Commission when he visited their office in Birmingham to get his visa before heading to the World XI games in Pakistan.

The tweet came few hours after the account was created where he explained how he was made to wait for five hours before the office personnel dismissed him saying that the office hours were over.

“I had to undergo a very unfortunate situation in the Pakistani consulate, Birmingham. I had visited the consulate to secure visas with my family members. But I had to wait for five long hours and then was expelled as the office hours were over,” said the man from Lahore.

Tahir went on to inform that the matter was taken seriously only after he approached High Commissioner Syed Ibne Abbas, who instructed a staff for helping him out and he was finally issued his visa.

“It’s sad that this happened to a guy, who was originally from Pakistan and is a South African cricketer taking part in the World XI series,” he added.

Tahir is a part of the World XI side that plays Pakistan in the three-match T20 series, termed Independence Cup, scheduled on September 12, 13 and 15 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The world XI side will also have Tahir’s compatriots like David Miller, Morne Morkel, Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis.
